I'm researching Anime Conventions for a grad school project?
Is there any data on how much revenue Anime Cons generated in 2012?

Most conventions do not release this info as they consider it proprietary info. If the convention was run by a 501c, you can get some info from the IRS since it has to be public record.

The only other info you'll find is that sometimes CVBs will release how much money an event generated for the city but there is no central location for that info as it'll be on the city CVB website of the convention location.

Now you can deduct the info as most conventions do list attendance levels then add in the cost of artist/vendor spaces. It won't be 100% as some cons have merchandise, food sales (if allowed), advertising and even that rare paid sponsorship. It'll give an estimate but not an actual number.
